Regional Director, Consultant Relations Job Description

Job Description:

The Role

  • This position is critical in promoting new business and defending Fidelity s client and profitability positions with external consultants. This role encompasses responsibility for developing influential relationships with external consultants, sourcing advisors and search firms. Interfacing with senior management in Workplace Investing as well as contacts within the larger Fidelity organization.\u00A0 Intimate knowledge of Fidelity and competitor products/services and industry trends is essential. Frequent interaction with internal sales professionals, relationship management, and investment consultants, is critical in addressing client specific situations. Internally, this role is responsible for helping the segments achieve their new business acquisition and client retention goals.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Territory Management/ Consultant Meetings - This role will be responsible for developing and managing consultant and advisor relationships within a defined territory.\u00A0 The RM will conduct regular and ongoing meetings with field consultants and sourcing advisors. As the consultants primary point-of-contact, CR RM presentations and interactions should solidify him/her as a knowledgeable resource and build credibility and rapport with key contacts in order to influence future consultant recommendations. The CR RM is responsible for all of the logistics associated with meetings-to include scheduling, travel, coordination with internal senior management, presentations, etc.

  • Product Knowledge/Training- The role involves continuous professional development on both industry and competitor products/services and best practices.\u00A0 This would include regular meetings with Fidelity segments, marketing, product development and\u00A0 attendance at internal national sales meetings and occasional attendance at industry conferences/events

  • Internal Relationship Management-Role requires frequent interaction with relationship managers, internal investment consultants, segment senior management and pricing staffs in working through specific client issues with external consultants. In addition, bringing back external feedback on Fidelity product, services, and pricing to key products managers is essential.

Problem Solving

  • The person in this role needs to work independently the majority of the time, though as a functioning and important member of the Consultant Relations team. Coordination on specific client resolutions must be discussed in detail in advance with the relationship manager to ensure economic feasibility and supportability prior to discussing with consultants.\u00A0 Additionally, findings, actions and outcomes must be communicated to the team and other internal customers interacting with these consulting firms.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5-7+ years industry experience or equivalent

  • MBA or advanced degree helpful

  • NASD licenses: Series 7 and 63


  • Outstanding communication skills both oral and written, especially in a group setting; must be organized and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and work with consultant imposed deadlines; independent and able to take initiative without explicit direction balanced with the ability to work as a member of the CR team; board room/C suite command presence and maturity a must; creative thinking translated into value added presentation skills and content development; intimate and noteworthy knowledge of all Fidelity products (to include 40-Act, commingled pools and separate accounts) and administrative practices, and relevant industry trends; understands the internal and external economics of our business across all segment lines; understands the regulatory environment impacting our business; strong willed enough to influence the action, but perceptive enough to do so in a consultative fashion

Working Conditions

  • Travel-35-45%; otherwise, usual office working conditions; can work from home or other Fidelity offices occasionally given travel demands

The Team

  • External Consultants/Sourcing Advisors (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly\u2014as needed)

    • Reactive as well as proactive touches (depending on Tiering) in order to advance new business and client retention goals and build relationships

  • Account Executives/sales support personnel

    • Bring sales leads to appropriate Investment Only or sales associates as opportunities come in from external consultants

    • Work with assigned pursuit teams to facilitate interaction and feedback from the consultant before, during and after the sales opportunity.

  • Relationship Managers/Investment Consultants (as needed)

    • Work to address consultant issues on specific client relationships

    • Assist with renewal, re-bid and fee transparency discussion for clients involving consultants

  • Investment Consultant Relations (daily)

    • Consultant issues are frequently interwoven between investments and administration requiring coordinated responses with the Investment CR team.

  • Segment Senior Management (annually, quarterly and as needed)

    • Annual Business Planning with segment representative to determine CR activities that will support new business and client retention goals

    • Work with CR team and segment staff to advance segment goals and consultant relationships with Fidelity

Please see below for the salary range for work locations in Colorado only:

$100,000 - $180,000 per year

This position is eligible for incentive compensation or an annual bonus opportunity.
